I actively seek advanced reading copies of books to determine what items we want to include in the library's collection. Here are some thoughts and recommendations.
The Midnight Knock: A Novel
by John Fram.
I am a fan of entertainment that explores the concepts addressed in this novel. That is vague, but I don’t want to give anything away. The author, John Fram, did a good job of engaging me, although there was a bit of violence early on that seemed unnecessarily extreme. I believe the violence was to give us a glimpse into the character and the depth of their damage, but I wonder if there might have been another way to accomplish that task.
Overall, I found Mr. Fram’s handling of his material to be adept. The end of the first section was somewhat jarring, but it served as the perfect transition. The participants in the events at the Brake Inn Motel were surprisingly intertwined, and there was depth to the story that could benefit from a second read-through. This is a book I can recommend.
Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read The Midnight Knock: A Novel, by John Fram, for an honest review.
